The latest lumbar support seating system developed for underground mine workers working loaders and haul trucks is resulting in reduced incidents and fatigue.

Perth-based Modern Motor Trimmers (MMT), which specialises in suspension car seats and seating products for the mining sector, has spent over five-years developing the pneumatically-operated twin air lumbar seat support.

The two-stage lumbar assistance system is integrated into the backrest of a premium-quality T back seats. This uses the air supply from the seat's built-in air compressor or the machine's air supply to totally inflate, supporting the operator's lumbar region and creating a buffer against shock and jarring.

MMT is putting in the lumbar system into the premium quality ISRI seating range, presently the sole product on the market to own an adjustable back rest that can be angled for increased operator comfort and support.

Managing Director Garry Spouge, who started MMT in 1992, said the company had refined and started to provide the innovative seating product in the previous 12 months, as demand for safer and more comfortable seating technology in the underground mining sector got grown.

Mr Spouge said that MMT got previously researched and manufactured a similar T backed seats for underground exploration equipment, but the prototype did not have a flexible lumbar support.

"We're really pleased about our latest design and currently the feedback we've gained is that it's minimizing injuries and fatigue.

"And in addition to increasing operator comfort and safety, it also boosts seat life by reducing wear and tear and encouraging proper posture," he added

MMT's central market is the supply, installation and maintenance of premium headgear seats and seating products to the mining, building, construction, engineering and transport sectors.

The company is Western Australia's only authorized dealer and repairer for German manufacturer ISRI, which can be widely recognized as the maker of the world's most advanced driver and passenger seating products.
