A Perth-based motor trimming industry has started a new range of protective machine covers to the Queensland mining business which are conserving some of the state's major businesses big bucks in substitution parts and preventative maintenance charges.
Modern motor trimmers has invested over 5 years investigating and establishing a range of ram covers for truck and excavators. The 'ripstop' PVC sleeves hinder wear and tear, possibly tripling the life anticipation of ram seals and chroming, and generating important expense savings.
The covers, which sell for not more than $1,000, have also been created for coal shoots, rock crushers as well as dust extractors, and are proving popular with procurement gurus and mine planners who have quickly bought on the savings and efficiencies they offer.
Garry Spouge, the MMT managing director said the covers give resistance towards rocks, dust and salt pitting the machinery's rods, which can lead to the tearing of ram seals. They have been designed to enable simple self-installation by mechanics.
"Installing new ram seals can take few mechanics around half a day, and have apparent safety outcomes, especially where cranes or cherry pickers are wanted," he said.
"It's obviously a pricey exercise with regards to manpower as well as with machinery currently being down or obsolete for several hours.
"That's why we've developed our ram covers to be efficiently installed, they drop on and are safe either side by a patented clamp; the complete process normally takes about 45 minutes and can rise the life of the rod and seals by 2 to 3 times.
"Given that an excavator ram can cost you in excess of $50,000, the expense savings are very terrific, which is the reason why the need for our covers is quickly expanding."
One of the first companies to match the protective covers to its complete truck fleet was Western-Australia based FMG, at its mine in far north WA.
WA anf Rio Tinto in Queensland has simply placed a mass order for the sleeves, which MMT is manufacturing in a range of safety colors, including yellow and orange.
"We're discovering that the more progressive companies are seeing the big price advantages, and our orders have additional by 20 per cent simply because first launching into the Queensland market only six months ago," Mr Spouge added.
"We're as well working with a number of the bigger miners to custom layout preventative sleeves for other plant and machinery, and this bespoke, tailor-made service is a location which we are going to be looking to increase into in the future."
The evaluation and development work carried out by MMT on the protective ram covers is an add-on to the company's center business, which is based on the supply, setting up and maintenance of premium suspension seats and also seating products to the Australian mining, design, engineering, developing and transport sectors.
The industry is Western Australia's only official retailer and repairer for German company ISRI, which is greatly recognized as the business of the world's most advanced driver and passenger seating products.
